New Bigger and Better Boardwalk
Myrtle Beach has received approval for a $16 million boardwalk to be completed by next summer. The new 1% sales tax increase has freed up the funds necessary to begin work on this project. The new boardwalk is 1 mile long and will adjoin 2nd Avenue and the 14th Avenue North Pier, enhancing the assets already in place. Plans for the boardwalk show it will have 3 very different sections including a nature walking path, the revival of the old Myrtle Beach Pavilion with your typical festive boardwalk activities, and lastly an oceanfront park at the southern end. The resurrection of this new boardwalk will surely bring tourism back to the areas of Myrtle Beach that have been bypassed because of additions like Market Commons and Broadway on the Beach. Every beach needs a boardwalk and this will be just the ticket! Area residents, businesses and vacationers alike are anxiously anticipating the arrival of the boardwalk which has been seven years in the making. Construction is aimed to begin by labor day. We are excited for the new addition to Myrtle Beach. Next years vacationers definitely have something to look forward too!
