Freestyle Music Park gets off to a busy start on its first day in Myrtle Beach. The park’s original name was “Hard Rock Park,” named from the famous Hard Rock Corporation that is known for its many Cafés and Casinos. The Hard Rock Park was opened less than a year ago, on June 2nd, 2008 and featured a huge opening ceremony with a concert by The Moody Blues and The Eagles. That celebration did not last long, as the park shut its doors in August the same year.
Hard Rock Park closed and went into Bankruptcy proceedings soon after. In February 2009, a Delaware Bankruptcy Court approved the sale of the park to its current owners FPI MB Entertainment. Then, in April 2009, the new owners decided to change its name from Hard Rock Park to Freestyle Music Park, as part of a new vision and to please the former owners’ trademark infringement ideas of its name and design of the park.
Just this past week, HRP Creative Services, (Original Hard Rock Park Owners) filed suit against FPI MB Entertainment on the same basis of Trademark Infringement. They stated the design of the park was still the same. They believed FPI MB Entertainment did not do enough to separate itself and that many consumers would think of it as the original park. Also, this could hurt the reputation of the original designers if FPI MB Entertainment were to change what was thought of as the original Hard Rock Park.
Of course the Judge threw it out and stated the suit was “preposterous.” Also, he stated that keeping the park from opening May 23, 2009, would be a “catastrophic” effect to the local economy and with over 1000 employees, it would not be in the best interest to keep from opening. The park was scheduled to open its doors at 11:00 AM on the 23rd of May and what a start they had. We hope Freestyle Music Park will be very profitable and that there will no longer be any major road blocks to face in the future. Our economy is in need of this park to thrive and we wish them great success!!
