Myrtle Beach hosted their annual Firehouse Cook-off, Saturday at Myrtle’s Market, consisting of three-person teams from each shift at the station. The firefighter’s faced off in a timed event similar to the popular show “Iron Chef.” Surprised with a secret ingredient the morning of, they were allowed to use at least three items available from the farmers’ market vendors. The chefs had only two hours to whip together a cuisine meal for their judges: two local news representatives, and one visitor from the North Carolina Mountains. In a race with clock, the firefighters managed to pull together three delicious entrees, impressing the judges across the board, but Shift B took the topping when they sparked the judge’s taste buds with stuffed mini meat lovers, and roasted tomato on toasted bread with Ham-wrapped Grilled Asparagus. So if you didn’t get to join in the festivities this year, there’s always next year!
