It is evident to most by now that this year’s Harley Davidson Bike Week was a dud. Officials have been very hesitant to release any final attendance figures but we know it definitely doesn’t compare to the 500,000 Bike Week visitors in 2008. However, some business owners and residents are determined to keep bikers coming back to the Grand Strand next year and in years to come. They believe that this will require city support to rebrand the motorcycle rally. Suggestions include renaming it the Grand Strand Rally or relocating the week to Murrells Inlet, south of Myrtle Beach. Supporters of the rebranding effort plan to meet in the very near future to develop a more concrete plan of action and to devise marketing strategies for the 2010 Bike Week. Mayor Mark McBride has asked that the two opposing Bike Week parties come to a compromise. Whether or not that will ever happen or whether Harley Davidson Bike Week is dead in the water is anyone’s guess. Any ideas or thoughts?
