With the 2nd largest wildfire this state has ever seen and the largest we have seen in 30 years, the Grand Strand is starting to move forward. The fires scorched over 70 homes here at the beach. The Bulk of the damaged homes were in the community Barefoot Resort.
Contractors are now in full swing in this tight knitted community. Barefoot Resort stated that most of the fires were started from flying debris/ash that blew to the decorative pine needles surrounding the bushes, shrubs and trees, and then easily ignited. A lot of homeowners reported most of the damage done to their homes was the melting of the outside Vinyl Siding. Unfortunately, others reported they lost their entire home.
Of the homeowners interviewed that lost their entire property to the wildfire, they all were thankful no one was hurt and were even stating that they were willing to look forward, while not looking back. With such a huge impact to our community, we have all come together and been able to look upon each other to lend a helping hand. It sure is great to live in such a wonderful area that friends and family can pull together to help those at a time like this.
If I had to look back on what this wildfire has shown me, I would say the first thing coming to my mind were 100’s of registered people trying to find somewhere to stay on Thursday morning the 23rd of April. By the evening, the Red Cross reported that all the people registered with them had found other places to lay their heads. This was due to local businesses (hotels/resorts) and locals giving those in need a place to stay.

I read at a different blog that no one was injured in this fire, except for a few mild smoke inhalation from some victims. But I’m glad everyone was safe. The firefighters did a real good job here.
