The Grand Strand likes to hit the summer in full swing by the celebrating its annual event called the “Sun Fun Festival.” Having attended the Sun Fun Festival for the past 5 years, you could say the enjoyment for the entire family is assured!!
The Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce owns the trademarked rights to the name, Sun Fun Festival. This event was started to signify the start of summer and the celebration that runs all summer long starting in June and lasts up to September. The Sun Fun Festival usually takes place on the first weekend of June to consist of multiple events. To close off the summer celebration on Labor Day Weekend, the City of Myrtle Beach has the closing weekend event called, the “Beach Boogie and Barbeque Festival.”
The “Sun Fun Festival” will be held at Grand Park, which is located just across the street from the Market Commons. Last year it was held in the same location and made out to be a great success. There was plenty of room for the many vendors that occupied the event and sufficient room for the attendees coming to enjoy the free rides, live entertainment, water racing, meet-and-greets and beach run.
This year, the meet-and-greet celebrities are Blake Lewis (American Idol Finalist), Jason Earles (Hannah Montana) and Robert Newman (Guiding Light). The scheduled concert for June 6th, 2009, with free admission to all attendees is the group, Lifehouse. The Grand Park Lake will have the H2X Racing Team that will demonstrate their professional watercraft skills while demonstrating tricks for others to see. Also, at the Atlantic Ocean, the H2X Racing Tour will take place for the spectators to see Oceanside and will be sponsored by WizardX Media, Res-Q Energy Drink and Sea Doo. The location for the races at the beach will be directly behind the oceanfront restaurant Damon’s Grill.
The event always seems to put smiles on the faces of our locals that live here and the many people that flock to the Grand Strand. This event will take place the first weekend in June from the 4th through the 8th. Most of the events are on June 5th and 6th (Friday and Saturday). If you are in town and looking for something fun to do, you definitely need to come by for the event. We hope to see you there and enjoy what our beach has to offer!!
