It’s free, including the parade at 10am and the street dance at 7pm. Last year over 20,000 people attended the event, and it’s been an Aynor tradition since

This annual migration attracts shaggers from all over the U.S. to Myrtle Beach, where the crazy was originally created more than 5 decades ago, a unique twist to East Coast swing dancing. There is a rearrangement of footwork, giving the shag a unique look and feel, with majority of the movement being below the waist. The dance uses the balls of the foot, creating a very smooth style of dance; started in North Myrtle Beach by the Society of Stranders (SOS). Starting September 17th and ending on September 26th, a 10 day adult party will begin on the East Coast, with nightlife parties at the SOS lounges including Fat Harold’s, Ducks, Duck’s II, the OD Arcade, & the clubs at the OD Beach & Golf Resort; each lounge offering its own unique quality. Stretching across Broadway’s lake is the new Soar & Explore Zip Line. This Zip Line is the first in the Myrtle Beach area and the only Zip Line over water on the East Coast. The cost to ride across the lake and back is around $20. Accompanying the grand opening of the Zip Line is the previously opened Ropes Challenge Course. “Well, I’m scared of heights so it’s definitely intimidating. But, going down there, the wind, it’s fun looking down and seeing all the fish and the ducks and coming back and it’s fast,” said Christopher Thompson, one of the first people to try out the zip line.

The beach drew a crowd of thousands out to see a C-17 military plane perform a low-altitude flyover. The scene brought many smiles and even a few tears to people’s faces. “It is our hope that this gesture will inspire the next generation of young Americans to develop the same appreciation for the brave men and women serving in the armed forces that our parents instilled in us,” the nonprofit’s organizers wrote on their website, salutefromtheshore.org.

Residents of Murrells Inlet went about celebrating with their 28th annual July 4th Boat Parade. Hundreds of boats decorated from bow to stern in red, white, and blue coasted through the marsh past houses decorated with patriotic spirit. “We love the Fourth of July parade,” said John Gilliland, who owns a condo in Murrells Inlet and comes to visit from Pennsylvania every chance he gets. “We love the whole feel of patriotism here, and the way they celebrate here.”

For Pawley’s Islanders, the annual 4th of July Parade was a big hit. The streets were full of decorated boats, cars, floats, and live music. The parade was lead through Bird’s Nest into Town Hall, to be judged, and continued on route heading north. With so much to do this weekend, Myrtle Beach residents and tourists were guaranteed a good patriotic time with plenty of fireworks to follow.

Planning to set out and break his already existing record of 1250 mile paddle, and make the journey from Florida to New York for a 1500 mile paddle. Tom not only is paddling across the Eastern coast, but also setting out to raise public awareness about the greatest risks of human health, the environment, and the world’s oceans from improper and excessive use of plastic. His goal is to raise $500,000 to support the mission of plastic free ocean. Being noticed by Wyndham Worldwide, who are now ranked in the top 100 greenest companies in the U.S., are now working together to raise the money to support the plastic free waters. Tom will also be stopping in North Myrtle Beach on July 10th for a fundraiser event being held at the Wyndham Towers on the Grove, and will educate local businesses on how to reduce their use of plastic.

Not only will there be oodles of things to do, but you can grab a bite to eat at one of Broadway’s notorious restaurants, such as Joe’s Crab Shack and Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. You can even break out the wallets and get some incredible shopping done. If you are worried about the hassle of finding a parking space and then having to trek up to the main gate, worry no more. Broadway will be expanding their parking along with supplying free shuttle bus rides to the main gates. We’re not sure about you, but this prime event sounds like a plan for us.
